Site translations…
I’ve been enjoying the fact that a lot of the traffic to this blog has come from non-English language sites, so I purchased a Translator plugin for wordpress to make page translation point-and-click easy.
Unfortunately, there’s apparently a known issue that Google’s translation service has started returning 403 errors after "excessive inquiries" (in my case, that was 12-14 queries over the course of an hour as I tried out each of the languages offered by the plugin… I wouldn’t have guessed that would be deemed excessive, but then again it’s not my service…)
Net net - - for the last 48 hours, all anybody trying to get a translation of this site has seen is an error message:
We’re sorry…
… but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can’t process your request right now.
We’ll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we’ll see you again on Google.
Counter-measures: I’ve activated the translator’s "experimental" caching feature, and have set it to 10 hours. We’ll see how it goes. I’ve heard mixed reports; I also don’t know of anyone else who’s running this in conjunction with wp cache, so I’ll need to monitor that as well.
Please let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary - I’d really like to keep the service working if possible.
